The Project

Palmerston North City Council is subdividing 9.6 hectares of residentially zoned land at James Line to accommodate a range of housing types to suit the growth of the local community.

The Requirement

The requirement of dewatering a heavily sediment-laden 11,000mᶟ pond to a suitable standard to discharge directly to the stormwater network.

The Dewatering Solution

Higgins consulted Condor as to the best methodology for dealing with the challenge faced.

Water samples were taken from the site and tested by Condor prior to specifying the correct chemical, dosing rates, pumps, and water treatment system requirements.

The HC522/17 Dewatering pump was chosen for this site due to the fact that it can run constantly for up to 12 days on a single tank of fuel, is very fuel efficient, and its low operating noise is a requirement in this residential application.

The Result

The Water Treatment System, Pump, and associated hoses, etc, were delivered to the site, and Condor staff oversaw the commissioning of the system.

With the raw water entering the system in excess of 1000NTU and the treated water being discharged as low as 9.29NTU, the results speak for themselves.

The end result was that Higgins kept well within their water quality discharge consent requirements.
