Stream Bypass at Cannons Creek Park, Porirua

Condor is currently on the ground at Cannons Creek Park in eastern Porirua, working alongside JFC (John Fillmore Contracting) on a key piece of infrastructure that's part of one of the region's most significant community development projects.
Our scope is focused and technical: bypass approximately 60 metres of stream to allow JFC's team to safely replace an existing stormwater inlet. It's the kind of work that doesn't always make the headlines, but without it, the wider project simply can't move forward.
The Stream Bypass Challenge
Stream bypassing requires careful planning and the right equipment to ensure continuous, controlled water flow throughout construction. The goal is to divert the stream away from the work zone entirely, keeping the site dry, safe, and workable while protecting the surrounding environment from any disruption.
For this job, we deployed:
This pump configuration gives us the capacity to manage the stream's flow across the full 60-metre bypass, regardless of variability in flow rates on site. The combination of the 8" pump and three 6" units provides flexibility and backup, ensuring we maintain a consistent, uninterrupted diversion throughout the works.
Part of Something Bigger
The Cannons Creek Park and Wetland project is a major undertaking for eastern Porirua. When complete in late 2027, the park will feature a new wetland to improve water quality in Kenepuru Stream, upgraded sports fields with improved drainage, new community spaces, and expanded stormwater and wastewater infrastructure. All built to serve the growing Porirua community for generations to come.
It's exactly the kind of project that reminds us why the technical groundwork matters. Before the wetland, the paths, and the community spaces can take shape, the infrastructure has to be right.
A great collaboration with the JFC team, and we're proud to play our part.
